The Truth Behind Denise Richards' "Bravo, Bravo Fucking Bravo" Comment
We love a fourth-wall-breaking moment!
In case you've been living under a COVID-19 sized rock, let me catch you up to speed. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills premiered this week and the editors gave us a delicious two-minute montage at the end of the episode which showed clips of Denise Richards storming off from filming on several occasions and breaking the fourth wall in the process.
The most bone-chilling part of the entire montage was Denise screaming “I am not doing this, you guys. Stop. Bravo, Bravo, f–king Bravo. I’m out. I am not f–king doing this" and now we have some clarity on why the actress turned reality star uttered this now-iconic phrase.
During an Instagram Live with Bravo after the episode aired, the interviewer asked Kyle Richards where this phrase came from. The OG said back in season one of the show she and her fellow cast members would touch up their makeup while the cameras were down for an equipment change or a break.
If the cameras went back up too early the ladies would say "Bravo" or "Andy Cohen" because it would break the fourth wall and be unusable footage. Kyle explained:
"If the cameras come back up and we don't want them to film us yet, we would joke and say, 'Oh, Bravo, Bravo, Bravo. Hi, Andy Cohen. Hi, Andy Cohen,'" Kyle said. "And then laugh so they wouldn't use the footage because you can't break the fourth wall because they don't acknowledge that we're on a show.
So I guess someone told Denise that, that we used to do that. But that literally was 10 years ago. [Denise] started saying that when she didn't want what we were talking about [in Season 10] to be used. She was like, 'I'm just gonna start throwing that out there, and they won't use the footage.' And then they did."
That is a savage move from Bravo to use the footage, which is exactly what we need in these rough times. Seeing the fourth wall be broken on these shows is always iconic, and it's about time ALL the Housewives shows start showing what goes on behind the scenes. Imagine all the potentially iconic moments that they edited out in the past because someone yelled BRAVO!
Although Kyle didn't know who told Denise about this production trick, Denise herself revealed the person responsible.
Teddi Mellencamp took to Twitter with a smart ass comment about Bravo continuing to film even when you try to control things. So naturally, Denise clapped back and accused Teddi of being the one who told her that if you use Bravo in a scene they can't use the footage.
In an interview with PEOPLE Now, Teddi said she was shocked whenever Denise would say "Bravo" during filming to try and control the editing, which definitely sounds a little hypocritical now considering she's the one who allegedly told Denise about this trick. Teddi told the outlet:
“When they showed [that] moment I was like [her jaw drops] … because obviously I saw that happen multiple times by that particular person but I was like, ‘Who does that?' You can’t just [do something like that] and act like it didn’t happen — that’s not how it works. We all signed up to do this and we have to show the good, the bad, and the ugly.”
I can't fucking wait for this season of fourth wall breaks to come our way!
