Gina Kirschenheiter Reveals The Real Reason She Exposed Matt’s Affair

When Gina Kirschenheiter first joined The Real Housewives of Orange County, she claimed she was divorcing her phantom husband because they grew apart, however, it took until her second season on the show for her to admit it was actually because he had an affair.
In a recent interview with Decider, Gina opened up about why she finally chose to tell the truth about her divorce this season and said after she found a Valentines' Day card in Matt's car from the other woman, she knew she had to let the secret out. The accent confused Housewife explained (read the quotes in Gina's voice it's so much fun):
“I was like, you know what, I can do a lot of stuff, I can protect you as much as I can, but I will not be asked, ‘Oh, is Matt dating someone?’ and say, ‘Oh, he has a lovely new girlfriend!’ I’m not gonna do it, this is where I draw the line! I’m a person who just protects that part of my life. I felt like I was protecting my kids, but then ultimately, it was like if this is really what’s happening, then there’s nothing you can do to protect that.”
Gina also shared, the stress from the secret was killing her on the inside and admitted she wouldn't have been able to film for an entire season without telling the truth about her situation. Secrets make you sick and you need to be open with everything in your life to deal with it and move on. Gina went onto explain:
“That was really tough for me. Even now, I’m constantly torn in my head, but I think that it was the right thing to do because I truly feel like keeping all of these secrets in regarding my personal life, it was killing me, it was breaking me down. I can see myself sinking away and I wouldn’t have made it through this season, I wouldn’t have been able to fake my way through it."
The Amanda Bynes doppelganger was going through it during filming for the show's fourteenth season, her DUI and bleach blonde hair were clear evidence of that, however, since the show wrapped Gina met a new guy named Travis Mullen and even went Instagram official with him last week.
When asked about her new love interest, the OC Housewife shared:
“Oh did you see that? [the social media post] It’s really important for you to laugh, and if you’re gonna laugh, you should laugh with good-looking men. I would say that I’m really happy right now and I think I’m on the other side of the bad and hopefully it just keeps going and we keep seeing where things lead.”
I am so happy for Gina. She managed to come out of a horrible, abusive relationship with an asshole who cheated on her and find a guy who she can just laugh with. Ladies let this be a lesson, never give up on love, no matter how DUIs you get along the way.
