Captain Sandy's Girlfriend Diagnosed With Breast Cancer

Unfortunately, Captain Sandy Yawn's girlfriend has been diagnosed with breast cancer but thank fuck the couple caught it early. In a long Twitter post, the yacht captain turned reality star announced to fans her girlfriend, Leah Shafer, had been diagnosed with the disease but thanked everybody for their outpouring of support.

Luckily, they found the cancer early which means there is a higher chance of survival and to ensure she never has to go through this again, Sandy shared that Leah has decided to have a double mastectomy and reconstruction, and said they are now looking among the top surgeons to perform the procedure.

That is so brave to be able to go through such an invasive surgery and definitely wouldn't have been an easy decision for either of them. It's even harder considering Sandy also said they will be apart for seven weeks while she is travelling for work (she does work on a yacht remember) but assured everyone the couple are staying strong through the tough time.

In an earlier interview, Sandy shared she met her now-girlfriend after Leah slid into her DMs and congratulated her on her hit reality show Below Deck and after they met up in person in Los Angeles, the rest was history. This also isn't Sandy's first brush with cancer, in March, she shared the story of doctors finding a tumor on her kidneys following a serious motorbike accident four years ago, which she luckily had removed.
